A new fan-made modification for Red Dead Redemption 2 is bringing an iconic Wild West experience that the original game lacked — the ability to rob banks.
Developed by creator tripleXdemN and released on October 20, 2025, the Banks of the West mod allows players to interact with fully functional banks across several in-game towns, including Rhodes, Valentine, and Armadillo. Players can deposit or withdraw funds, and — for the first time — attempt daring robberies complete with dynamite-assisted safe cracking.
According to the mod’s description, “players can now manage their money or take bigger risks by robbing banks, but actions have consequences.”
The modification introduces a risk-reward system that mirrors the moral tension of the game’s main narrative. If a player’s bounty exceeds $100, local authorities may seize half of their bank balance. Choosing to surrender results in the total loss of carried cash, reinforcing the game’s themes of risk, consequence, and survival in a lawless frontier.
While Red Dead Redemption 2 is praised for its realism and immersion, it originally lacked full-scale bank robbery mechanics outside of story missions. The Banks of the West mod seeks to fill that gap, offering players new ways to engage with the open world and test their outlaw instincts.
The mod is available for free download on Nexus Mods, though players are advised to carefully follow installation instructions to avoid compatibility issues with existing game files.
