New Resident Evil Requiem Footage Highlights Early Mansion Combat and Atmospheric Horror

Japanese televised gameplay clip offers first extended look at protagonist Grace Ashcroft and reinforces expectations of a slower, tension-focused campaign.

New footage of Resident Evil Requiem aired on Japanese television has provided the clearest gameplay demonstration yet of lead character Grace Ashcroft, showing her navigating a dark mansion stairwell before engaging in combat with a zombie. The 34-second recording aligns with earlier leaks suggesting the game will return to a slower, horror-heavy direction without disclosing new plot information.

The brief clip shows Ashcroft advancing through a dimly lit hallway with a flashlight and handgun before being attacked by a suited zombie on a staircase landing. Movement and gunplay appear more deliberate than in the more action-driven Resident Evil 4, reinforcing expectations of a tense pacing style. According to the original source, the footage appeared as part of a Japanese broadcast that featured a censored version of the game, which traditionally reduces the depiction of blood, head trauma and dismemberment. The broadcaster described the footage as coming from a version designed to comply with local television standards.

Analysts commenting on the release note that the broadcast context is important when assessing impact effects. The uncensored global edition — expected on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — is likely to feature more explicit visual detail than what was shown during the televised preview. The original source added that the clip represents a deliberately toned-down section not fully indicative of the final presentation.

The latest footage fills a gap left by previous leaks and trailers that established Ashcroft as one of multiple playable protagonists in a narrative set in a city reminiscent of Raccoon City. Earlier reports claimed a longer campaign structure than Resident Evil Village, including perspective shifts between characters and a central storyline involving Ashcroft and her mother. However, some rumors — including speculation about Leon Kennedy’s reported appearance — have been publicly denied by senior development staff.

The televised segment also sheds new light on the game’s visual and cinematic direction. Capcom appears to be maintaining an over-the-shoulder camera, heavy film-grain presentation and a narrow field of view to heighten claustrophobia. The confined staircase layout and subdued ambient lighting evoke the series’ earliest mansion settings rather than the open environments of recent installments.

Marketing for Resident Evil Requiem remains limited with several months left before launch. The restrained broadcast format suggests that previews may continue to reveal tightly edited glimpses rather than broader narrative or gameplay details. The title is scheduled for global release on February 27, 2026.
