Nintendo has released a four-minute animated short film titled Close to You on its official YouTube channel without any prior announcement, description, or promotional context. The video, which appeared on October 7, features a tender scene between a mother and her child and ends with the two embracing, set to gentle piano music.

The short appears designed to evoke emotion rather than promote a specific title. Viewers have noted that comments are disabled, suggesting Nintendo may be seeking to encourage curiosity and interpretation rather than direct discussion.

The video’s story follows a mother who briefly leaves her baby’s room after hearing a knock at the door. While she is away, the baby’s toys appear to come to life, culminating in the child taking its first steps before being caught by the returning mother.

Online communities quickly began dissecting the video, proposing various theories about its meaning and potential connection to Nintendo franchises. The most common speculation links the short to the Pikmin series, citing similarities in tone and visual style. Some viewers also believe the imagery could hint at Super Mario Galaxy or a new project under Nintendo Pictures.

As of now, Nintendo has provided no explanation or follow-up information regarding the film. With its lack of promotional framing, Close to You has become the subject of widespread fan interpretation — ranging from a subtle teaser for future content to a standalone artistic experiment.
