Leaks surrounding Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the latest title from Game Freak for the Nintendo Switch, have intensified ahead of its official release. Reports indicate that a downloadable ROM of the game has surfaced online, allowing players to explore the in-game world of Lumiose City before its scheduled debut on October 16.
According to coverage from Nintendo Everything and other gaming outlets, some players received early retail copies of the game, prompting a wave of leaks including screenshots, gameplay footage, and information about returning Mega Evolutions. The situation escalated after a full game ROM appeared on file-sharing platforms, making the unreleased title accessible through emulators and third-party hardware.
The report noted that “a downloadable Pokémon Legends: Z-A ROM allows gamers who condone piracy to explore all of Lumiose City,” underscoring the scale of the leak. While downloading or distributing such files constitutes copyright infringement, the ROM remains widely available online. Nintendo has historically taken aggressive legal action against individuals involved in selling or sharing its proprietary software.
This is not the first time a major Nintendo release has surfaced ahead of schedule. Physical copies of high-profile Switch titles often ship early, leading to premature gameplay streams. The company previously filed lawsuits against content creators who published footage of unreleased games, including the 2023 case against streamer Jesse “EveryGameGuru” Keighin.
Despite the leaks, Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Switch 2, has yet to be compromised by piracy tools. The company continues to enhance its security systems and enforce bans on modified consoles. Fans waiting for the official release will experience the final version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A later this week, featuring new Mega Evolutions and upgraded visuals optimized for the current Switch hardware.
