Polar has begun rolling out its Polar OS 5 software update to five smartwatch models, including the Vantage M3, Vantage V3, Grit X2, Grit X2 Pro and Ignite 3, the company said. The update is being distributed in stages and may take several days to reach all users, according to Polar.

The new operating system focuses largely on convenience and interface refinements rather than major feature overhauls. Among the additions are the ability to set multiple alarms directly on the watch, a night mode for watch faces and a dimmed display response when “Do Not Disturb” is enabled. Some faces can also switch to a more minimal time display, while a new chart tracks blood oxygen saturation trends over time.

Polar OS 5 also introduces visual changes and new widgets. The maps application gains a dark mode designed to reduce eye strain, and two new watch face widgets offer insights into sleep quality from the previous night and activity levels over the past week. When connected to a charger, the smartwatch can now display the current time.

Workout-related adjustments are also part of the update. After completing an activity, users are asked to rate how strenuous the session felt on a scale from one to 10, allowing the watch to adapt future training suggestions. “Polar OS 5 asks users after a workout how strenuous it was,” the company said, describing the feature as a way to tailor workouts more closely to individual performance.

In addition, Polar said it has fixed an issue that caused duplicate iPhone notifications on some devices and improved performance when zooming within the maps app. The update applies across all five supported models, each receiving a specific OS 5 version number as part of the rollout.
