RedMagic is discontinuing its Astra gaming tablet in Japan after demand exceeded the company’s production capacity, the company said, bringing an abrupt end to the availability of the device in the market.
The move follows a recent refresh of the Astra tablet, which had been positioned as a more compact option compared with other Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered gaming tablets. RedMagic Japan announced that all Astra variants will be discontinued and confirmed that there are no plans to restock the device once remaining inventory is sold.
According to the company, sales of the Astra significantly surpassed internal expectations, even after manufacturing output was increased. Ongoing constraints in the supply of memory components further limited the company’s ability to meet demand.
RedMagic said it has decided to stop further production of the Astra and redirect its resources toward the development of next-generation hardware. The company has not clarified whether the decision applies only to Japan or if other markets will also be affected.

The announcement leaves uncertainty over the future availability of the Astra outside Japan, as RedMagic did not provide guidance on global supply plans for the gaming tablet.
