Samsung Electronics said it will add Digital Key compatibility for select Toyota vehicles to Samsung Wallet, allowing drivers to unlock, lock and start their cars using compatible Galaxy smartphones beginning in January 2026.
The feature will first be introduced on certain 2026 Toyota RAV4 models, with availability starting this month in the United States, Canada and Mexico. A broader rollout in Europe is expected to follow in line with Toyota’s regional vehicle launch schedules.

Samsung said the update is intended to make vehicle access more seamless by reducing reliance on physical keys and integrating car controls into its wider mobile ecosystem. The company described the move as part of its broader effort to streamline everyday tasks through smartphone-based services while maintaining high security standards.
Once a compatible vehicle is linked to Samsung Wallet, users will be able to access and start it using ultra-wideband (UWB) and near-field communication (NFC) technologies. These standards are designed to support hands-free entry and more precise authentication, helping to limit the risk of unauthorized access. Users will also be able to share digital keys with trusted contacts and revoke access when needed.

Samsung said Digital Keys are stored directly on the device and protected by its Knox security platform, with additional safeguards such as biometric or PIN authentication. If a smartphone is lost or stolen, the digital key can be remotely locked or deleted, the company said, as automakers and technology firms increasingly move toward software-based vehicle access systems.
