Sony has officially introduced the A7 V, a new full-frame camera positioned as an all-round model and successor to the A7 IV. The company said the device brings substantial performance gains through a redesigned 33-megapixel sensor, improved autofocus, and upgraded video features. “The A7 V delivers significantly improved performance for a wide range of creators,” Sony stated, calling the model a step forward for users who require both photography and cinema-grade video in one body.
While the overall design remains similar to the previous generation, the new processor enables a 120 Hz refresh rate for the 3.68-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder. The flip-out touchscreen also offers a wider range of motion. Battery life has been extended to an estimated 630 shots per charge when using the electronic viewfinder, compared with 520 on the A7 IV. Sony attributes the gains to the new Bionz XR2 processor with integrated AI assistance and the partially stacked sensor.

According to official specifications, the A7 V can shoot up to 30 frames per second in 14-bit RAW with full autofocus tracking, and includes a Pre-Capture function that records one second of data before the shutter is pressed. The electronic shutter benefits from a 4.5-times quicker readout speed, while dynamic range is rated at 16 stops. Sony also says automatic white balance has been improved by its latest AI-based processing.
For video creators, the A7 V supports 4K/60 fps recording in full-frame mode and up to 4K/120 fps when switching to an APS-C crop. The company says enhancements to image stabilisation allow handheld shooting at shutter speeds equivalent to 7.5 stops longer than usual without a tripod. Connectivity upgrades include the addition of a second USB-C port and support for Wi-Fi 6E.
