Xiaomi 16 Pro Rumoured to Feature OmniVision Sensor in Main Camera

Xiaomi is expected to implement more extensive camera improvements in its upcoming Xiaomi 16 Pro smartphone than initially anticipated, according to new reports from industry leakers.

While earlier rumours pointed to a single enhancement—specifically a new telephoto camera—recent leaks suggest that the Chinese electronics manufacturer is also considering a major upgrade to the phone’s primary sensor.

According to the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, the Xiaomi 16 Pro could feature the OmniVision OV50Q sensor in its main camera. The OV50Q is reported to offer a 1/1.3-inch optical format and include lateral overflow integration capacitor (LOFIC) technology, which is designed to enhance high dynamic range (HDR) imaging.

“The OV50Q is not only larger but also integrates LOFIC, which should improve HDR performance noticeably,” Digital Chat Station stated.

Xiaomi has yet to officially confirm details regarding the Xiaomi 16 Pro. The device is expected to debut later this year, possibly during the autumn, alongside other Android flagships.

Another leaker, @RODENT950, claimed that multiple Android smartphone makers will adopt the OV50Q in 2025. Among those reportedly considering the sensor is Honor, which is anticipated to include it in the Magic8 Pro.

Both Xiaomi and Honor are expected to release their new devices ahead of Samsung, which is unlikely to unveil its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 successor-powered Galaxy S25 series before early 2026.

As the competition in the Android flagship market intensifies, hardware innovations—particularly in camera technology—are expected to be key differentiators for consumers.
