A new fighting game inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra was announced at New York Comic Con 2026. The project, titled Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, brings the elemental combat of the beloved animated series into a 2D format and is scheduled for release in summer 2026.
The announcement featured a debut trailer showcasing iconic characters and their bending abilities. According to details from the game’s official Steam page, it will combine traditional fighting game mechanics with new movement systems designed to capture the expressive combat styles of the Avatar world. Players will be able to control a roster of 12 fighters at launch, with additional characters planned through a seasonal update model.
The developers are also introducing support characters who can assist during battles, offering players more tactical variety. Unlike many competitive fighting games, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will include a single-player story mode featuring an original narrative set in the Avatar universe, expanding the lore beyond the television series.
Cross-play functionality will be available at launch, allowing players across PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 to compete together online. This approach aims to build a unified community across platforms while keeping gameplay accessible to both casual and competitive players.
While the current title remains provisional, the developers confirmed that it may change before release. No specific launch date has been set, but the summer 2026 timeline marks the next major step for the franchise’s expansion into the fighting game genre, reflecting continued global interest in the Avatar universe.
