FX has announced that Ubisoft’s Far Cry videogame series will be adapted into a live-action television production for Hulu and Disney+, marking the franchise’s first major transition to serialized storytelling on screen. The project follows more than two decades of commercial momentum for the first-person shooter series, which began in 2004.
The adaptation will be developed by Noah Hawley and Rob Mac, two writers known for long-standing collaboration with FX. Hawley has previously overseen several anthology-style productions, and the thematic structure of Far Cry — in which each game presents a new setting and cast — is seen as aligning naturally with his approach to seasonal storytelling.

Mac, creator of the long-running comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is joining to co-lead development. Both writers have an extensive history with FX, and the network has positioned the project as a continuation of that relationship. The adaptation is expected to replicate the games’ anthology format rather than follow a single linear storyline.
FX Entertainment leadership has described the collaboration as a strong fit, referencing the studio’s track record with both writers across multiple series over several years. Ubisoft has also expressed confidence in the adaptation, emphasizing the significance of bringing its well-established property to live-action format.

The Far Cry franchise began with the original 2004 release, which centered on former Special Forces operative Jack Carver and introduced the series’ themes of survival and conflict in isolated environments. With six main titles and multiple spin-offs now behind it, the brand has become one of Ubisoft’s most recognizable. Details regarding casting, filming schedules and release timing have not yet been disclosed.
