Garmin has started distributing a new public beta software update to several of its older mid-range Forerunner smartwatches, extending recent platform changes to a wider group of devices, the company said.
The update, Public Beta Version 27.05, is being released globally to users of the Forerunner 255, 955, 165, 265 and 965 models. It follows an earlier beta release, Version 27.03, which was initially limited to the Forerunner 165.

Garmin said the software is being delivered gradually, noting that it uses a “phased rollout” approach. The company added that it has already reached a “50% rollout percentage,” meaning some users may still need to wait several days before the update appears on their devices.
Users enrolled in Garmin’s Beta Program can manually check for the update and bypass the staged release by selecting the “Check for Updates” option, the company said.

According to Garmin, the new firmware addresses several crashes linked to swimming activities, alongside fixes for other unspecified bugs and general performance improvements. The company did not provide further details on the additional changes included in the release.
Garmin has not indicated when the current v27.xx beta software will be promoted to a stable release, leaving the timeline for a full public rollout unclear.
