Garmin has begun offering a new beta software update for its Vivoactive 6 and Venu 4 smartwatches, marking the start of a new development cycle that is expected to lead to a larger stable release later on.
The update, Beta Version 16.11, is the first v16.xx software build released for the Vivoactive 6 since Garmin wrapped up its previous 15.xx development earlier this month. Software Version 15.33, issued about two weeks ago, concluded that cycle after several beta builds and stable updates.

Unlike many Garmin beta releases that focus heavily on bug fixes, Beta 16.11 centers on feature additions. Garmin said the update delivers 11 changes compared with Software Version 15.33, all of which introduce new functionality rather than fixes.
Among the additions are new glance widgets for tracking battery performance, weight, favorite sports teams and the impact of daily behaviors on health metrics. The update also introduces timed workout-focused training plans, voice alerts and an activity mode that allows users to record multiple sports in a single session.

Garmin also added messaging-related functionality, including support for a watch app that shows recent WhatsApp messages. In its changelog, the company said the update “adds insights to the sleep glance for your ideal bed time and wake time,” highlighting its continued focus on wellness and training guidance as it develops the next major software release.
