Japanese audio company Final has unveiled the DX4000 CL, a new pair of closed-back, over-ear headphones designed to recreate the wide soundstage typically associated with open-back models, the company said.
The DX4000 CL is positioned as a premium option for listeners who want an expansive audio presentation without sound leakage. Final said the effect is achieved through a combination of extra-thick memory foam ear pads, a low-distortion driver and a low-resonance internal structure intended to minimise unwanted reflections.

At the core of the headphones is a newly developed driver that uses diaphragms made from Japanese washi paper infused with carbon to improve rigidity while keeping weight low. Behind the driver, Final has added a sound diffuser designed to reduce resonance and manage internal reflections. According to the company, the goal is to produce a more natural and open listening experience within a closed-back design, describing the aim as recreating “the spacious soundstage of an open-back model.”
The DX4000 CL has also been designed with serviceability in mind, allowing users to disassemble the headphones and replace individual components. The package includes a detachable two-metre cable with a 3.5 mm connector, as well as a 4.4 mm adapter for balanced audio setups.
