Owners of PlayStation 5 may need to clear storage space ahead of the launch of Resident Evil Requiem, as the upcoming title is set to become the largest download in the franchise’s history.
According to data shared by PlayStation Game Size, the game will require 72.88 GB of storage on Sony’s console, exceeding previous entries in the long-running survival horror series developed by Capcom. “At 72.88 GB, PlayStation Game Size reveals that it will require the largest download in the series,” the report said, fueling discussion among players about the scope of the campaign.
Pre-loads for the PS5 version are scheduled to begin on Feb. 25, with the game becoming playable at midnight on Feb. 27, likely aligned with regional time zones. File sizes for the Xbox Series X and PC versions on Steam have not yet been confirmed, though they are expected to be comparable.
The download size surpasses that of the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4, which launched at around 58 GB before expanding to roughly 70 GB with additional content. By comparison, Resident Evil Village required 27.3 GB on PS4 and PS5. While some modern titles exceed 100 GB, including major releases such as Gran Turismo 7, the new Resident Evil installment represents a notable increase for the series.

Early previews indicate that the campaign in “Resident Evil Requiem” will alternate between Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy, with estimates suggesting a playtime of around 15 to 20 hours depending on difficulty and exploration. Enhanced visuals, including ray tracing and higher-resolution 4K textures, may also contribute to the larger install size. A version planned for Nintendo’s Switch 2 is reported to require significantly less storage, potentially reflecting heavier asset compression for the handheld platform.
