Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 promises significant updates across various applications, including Safari, Notes, Mail, Photos, Siri, Messages, Maps, and more. Amid these improvements, the often overlooked Contacts app is set to receive enhanced security features to safeguard user data.
With iOS 18, Apple introduces stricter controls over third-party access to contacts, addressing concerns about data privacy. Users will now have the option to selectively grant access to specific contacts when installing new apps, rather than providing unrestricted access to their entire contacts list.
This measure aims to prevent potential data breaches where sensitive information such as birth dates and email addresses could be exploited by malicious actors.
“iOS 18 puts users in control by letting them choose to share only specific contacts with an app,” Apple noted in a statement. This update underscores Apple’s commitment to empowering users with greater privacy protections, ensuring that personal data remains secure.

Currently available in developer beta 2, iOS 18 is set to launch its public beta later this month, with a stable release expected in September.
