Zoox, the autonomous vehicle company owned by Amazon, has launched its fully driverless ride-hailing service in Las Vegas, making the Strip its first market for a purpose-built robotaxi.

The service, available through the Zoox app on iOS and Android, currently offers free rides to destinations such as Resorts World Las Vegas, AREA15 and Topgolf, with more locations planned as the rollout expands.

Zoox selected Las Vegas for its debut due to the city’s steady flow of more than 40 million visitors each year and its reputation as a hub for entertainment and technology adoption. The company said the Strip provides a high-profile stage to showcase autonomous mobility.

Unlike rivals that retrofit existing vehicles, Zoox built its robotaxi from the ground up for autonomy. The company spent more than a decade developing the vehicle, a process it said positions it to scale operations more effectively.

Zoox also plans to expand to San Francisco, where riders can join a waitlist, though no launch date has been announced. The company’s Las Vegas entry is among the most advanced deployments of self-driving technology in the city, offering rides without a human driver on board.
