Garmin has released a new stable firmware update for its Approach S44 and Approach S50 smartwatches, marking the second revision in as many months. The rollout of System Software 7.16 follows last month’s broader update, which replaced older 6.xx versions and introduced various fixes and interface changes aligned with the higher-end Approach S70.
Unlike many other Garmin product lines, the Approach S44 and S50 do not participate in a public beta program, meaning all improvements are delivered through the stable channel. Garmin uses this system to push incremental updates, and System Software 7.16 falls into this category as an interim patch.

According to the company’s forum communication, the update resolves a specific problem that affected the internal processing of user activity information. The post states that the release was issued to correct a flaw in which “activity data handling [was] not working correctly,” prompting Garmin to distribute a dedicated firmware revision despite its narrow focus.
The new software is expected to reach all eligible devices automatically. Users operating older builds can initiate the upgrade manually through the Settings menu by navigating to System, selecting Software Update and tapping “Check for Updates.”
