The top speed of an electric vehicle is usually already disclosed by the manufacturer. But that’s on paper and how fast an electric vehicle is depends on several variables.
Out of Spec just made a speed test of the large battery R1T quad-motor and Taycan Taycan 4 Cross Turismo. The test site is at the bottom of a dry lake in the desert. This test really pushed the EV speed to the limit.
The location at the bottom of a dry lake in the desert makes the speed test run optimally because there are no typical obstacles, other than those brought by nature, but also lots of flat land and steep hills.
Regardless of whether you care about EV racing or top speed, this video is worth watching just for its eye candy and relaxing vibe.
When you watch the video, you’ll quickly find out that it’s not just about top speed, it’s all kinds of driving performance. Kyle Conner calls the combination of the R1T and Taycan the “best two-car solution,” and the footage begs to prove it, at least if you want to get the car going fast. You’ll see straight-line acceleration, drifts, slides, donuts, some heavy-duty climbs, and more.
All that being said, you did come here to find out about the top speeds of the R1T and Taycan in the desert. Kyle brought the Taycan to 140 mph before starting to retreat. The R1T tops out at 115 mph.
If you’re here for more than just top speed, be sure to check out the entire video. It’s a lot of fun to watch, and seems even more fun to produce, although it might also be a little scary. After you watch it, leave us a comment below.
