YouTube gives Shorts creators access to a much larger toolkit. You’ll be able to create clips and remix them for up to five seconds of any eligible video or Shorts from the Shorts themselves.
Launching Engadget, Friday, April 15, this feature will be available to all users on iOS in the coming weeks, and will be coming to Android at the end of this year.
This tool builds on the audio mixing options YouTube added last year. To remix a regular video, tap the Create button and then Cut from the remix options. Then, you can choose which part of the video you want to use in Short. If you want to remix someone else’s short, tap the three-dot menu button, then select Trim.
Short films that remixes from other videos will automatically include attribution for the original video. Those who don’t want their videos remixed can opt out of YouTube Studio.
Adding a remix option to Shorts is a smart move for YouTube. Because, this remix feature played an important role in the success of TikTok, which was then followed by Instagram in January.
This feature will give Shorts creators a much larger palette and may be more attractive to some newcomers to try their hand at creating Shorts.
However, limiting the length of remix clips to five seconds per video seems a bit cramped. However, creative content creators will still be able to make the most of the feature.
Also, it will be easier for Shorts creators to find their audience. The video will be viewable on the web and the YouTube tablet app in the coming weeks. As of now, this feature is only viewable on the mobile app.
