TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is reportedly entering the business by launching the Music service. From this information, it seems that the Chinese tech giant will compete with US music streaming companies and Music.

ByteDance reportedly filed a trademark application for TikTok Music in America last May. Quoted from The Verge (1/8), TikTok’s parent company is known to have applied for a TikTok Music trademark in Australia in November 2021.

The TikTok Music platform is predicted to launch in the form of mobile and -based applications. Techradar revealed, this can allow users to buy, play, share and download the music they want.

The TikTok Music application is said to have the ability for users to create, share and recommend playlists. This service also allows users to live stream audio as well as video.

Reportedly, users can edit and upload cover photos from uploaded music playlists. They can also comment on the uploaded music/song/album.

Based on this, the existence of TikTok Music is suspected to be a tight competitor for other streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. Because, if you look at the traffic it has, TikTok is the only application outside of Meta that has been downloaded by more than 3 billion global users.

The Verge said ByteDance also has experience with music streaming services. TikTok’s parent company is reported to have launched a music streaming app called Resso in 2020 in India, Brazil and Indonesia. In fact, the company uses the TikTok app to bring their users to the music service Resso.

Furthermore, The Verge report reveals, Resso has some of the same features found in TikTok Music’s archiving information. Such as the ability to create playlists, share songs on social media and interact with the app community.

However, it is still unclear whether ByteDance plans to develop a music streaming app based on the Resso framework or not. However, considering how intertwined music discovery is with TikTok, it’s no surprise that the company will soon be launching its own music streaming app.
