Apple to Integrate Japan’s “My Number” ID Functions into iPhones

Apple CEO Tim Cook has agreed, at the request of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, to incorporate Japan’s “My Number” identification card functions into iPhones, according to Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.

The move comes as the Japanese government aims to streamline administrative processes by integrating people’s tax and social security data into a single identification card.

“Prime Minister Kishida and Mr. Tim Cook confirmed that My Number card functions will be put on iPhones next spring,” Hayashi announced during a regular news conference, following a video conference between Kishida and Cook.
