Canon has launched the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II mirrorless cameras, designed for professional photographers. The EOS R1 features a new autofocus system, exceptional speed, and robust weather sealing, while the EOS R5 Mark II offers a powerful sensor, high-resolution video recording, and improved low-light autofocus.
Both cameras are expected to be available in the US in Fall 2024 (EOS R1) and August 2024 (EOS R5 Mark II), with starting prices of $6,299 and $4,299, respectively.
Canon introduced its latest additions to the mirrorless camera market, the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II, promising advancements in speed, image quality, and durability. The EOS R1 is tailored for news and sports photographers, featuring a cutting-edge autofocus system powered by the new Accelerated Capture imaging platform. This platform integrates the DIGIC Accelerator and DIGIC X image processors with newly developed high-speed image sensors.
The EOS R1’s robust, weather-sealed body includes a novel Cross Type AF system, enabling precise subject tracking in challenging environments. It boasts a silent electronic shutter capable of 40 frames per second with autofocus tracking and a 24.2-megapixel sensor, which can upscale images to 96 megapixels. The camera also supports 6K RAW video recording at 60 frames per second, 4K at 120 frames per second, and Full HD at 240 frames per second.
The EOS R5 Mark II is designed for creative professionals, offering a 45-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor, an electronic shutter with autofocus tracking up to 30 frames per second, and the capability to capture 8K RAW video footage at 60 frames per second. The camera also provides 12-bit internal RAW recording and 4K video at up to 120 frames per second, improving low-light autofocus performance.
Both models will be available in the US later this year. The EOS R1 is set for release in Fall 2024 at $6,299, while the EOS R5 Mark II will be available in August 2024 for $4,299. Optional battery grips are priced between $349.99 and $499.99. Canon’s 5-year warranty is included with purchases from authorized resellers.
