Garmin has released a new beta software update, version 20.12, for its latest smartwatch lineup, including the Fenix 8 series, Enduro 3, Fenix E, and Quatix 8. The update introduces several functional improvements and bug fixes, while remaining exclusive to participants in the company’s beta program.
In a company announcement, Garmin said the new software “adds support for a new activity, improves ECG performance with Bluetooth headphones, and introduces a redesigned map display.” The update must be manually requested via the over-the-air (OTA) function on the watch. As part of the beta testing phase, diving functions and electrocardiogram features are temporarily disabled.
One key fix addresses a connectivity issue that caused Bluetooth headphones to disconnect during ECG measurements. Garmin also added inline skating to the list of supported activities and expanded custom workout options, allowing users to define their own fitness goals.
The update includes multiple navigation-related fixes, including corrections for the paid Outdoor Maps Plus service and a bug that caused incorrect repetition counts in certain strength workouts. Owners of Garmin’s Tactix models will also benefit from a repaired link to the weather radar feature.
The beta release continues Garmin’s practice of refining its high-end multisport watches through user feedback before delivering stable public updates. The company has not yet announced when version 20.12 will roll out to all users.
