Garmin has issued a broad stable update for several of its Instinct-series smartwatches, introducing new features and performance improvements across the lineup. The rollout of System Software 12.21 replaces earlier versions following a brief beta period and is now reaching the Instinct E, Instinct 3 and Instinct Crossover models. Garmin said the update delivers “around 35 new features and improvements,” describing it as one of the more substantial firmware releases for the series.

The update includes 11 changes applicable to all Instinct E and Instinct 3 watches, with additional adjustments released for Instinct E and Solar variants and eight items specific to the Crossover line. According to Garmin, the package contains 10 new features, including support for Health Status, a tool that tracks changes in key metrics and helps interpret overall wellbeing. This feature was recently highlighted in the company’s November 2025 software update.

System Software 12.21 also delivers user interface refinements and approximately two dozen bug fixes. One of the notable corrections targets potential battery drain when using certain Connect IQ watch faces, while the Area Calc app receives an updated interface. Garmin said initial distribution has reached about 20% of eligible devices, adding that wider availability is expected in the coming days.

The update includes new data fields for Steps, Pulse Ox and Recovery Time on Solar and E models, as well as expanded support for HRM Pace & Distance over BLE for Solar and AMOLED versions. The AMOLED line also gains additional watch-face options for UTC and barometer data, along with fixes affecting workout and Morning Report animations on certain sizes.

For the Instinct Crossover models, Garmin has introduced an additional watch-face design, made various UI improvements and corrected issues affecting sensors, call notifications, barometer scaling and the analog hands mechanism. A Garmin representative said the release is now accessible to all users, noting that owners who have not yet received the update can manually check by selecting the system’s “Check for Updates” option.
