Garmin has begun rolling out a new system software update for the Approach S12 GPS golf watch, marking the first update for the device in nearly two years. The smartwatch, which was launched in 2021, is receiving System Software version 5.10, according to the company’s release notes.
The update addresses two issues reported by users. Garmin said it has fixed a problem related to automatic course update files, ensuring that “teebox, par and handicap data” are correctly applied after downloads. The company also said it resolved an issue where front and back dots were not displayed properly on the Green view of the main golf screen.

A post on the Garmin Forum indicates that the update has so far reached about 30% of users, suggesting a phased rollout. Once available, owners can install the software either through the Garmin Golf smartphone app or via the Garmin Express desktop software.
Garmin noted that a similar update is also being distributed to users of the Approach G12 clip-on GPS range finder. The company has recently released stable software updates for other golf-focused devices, including the Approach S70, Approach S44 and Approach S50.

The Approach S12 currently retails for about $199.99, and the update signals continued software support for the older model, albeit focused on maintenance rather than new features.
