Graphics card maker Colorful has introduced the Rimbook L1, a budget-focused laptop designed for office and productivity tasks, powered by an Intel Core i5-12450H processor. Priced at $399 and initially launched in the Philippines, the Rimbook L1 is expected to become available in additional markets soon.
While Colorful is primarily known for its GPU products, the company has gradually expanded into the laptop segment. The Rimbook L1 is one of its most affordable notebooks to date, aimed at users seeking a more capable alternative to Chromebooks or low-end Pentium-based laptops.
“Colorful’s Rimbook L1 aims to offer solid performance at an attractive price,” the company said, positioning the model as an accessible choice for cost-conscious buyers.
The device features an Intel Core i5-12450H CPU from 2022, which combines four performance cores and four efficiency cores, reaching up to 4.4 GHz. Though not a latest-generation processor, it outperforms entry-level Celeron and Pentium chips often found in similarly priced machines.
The laptop comes equipped with 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a 512GB SSD, alongside a 15.6-inch Full HD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, 60Hz refresh rate, and 300 nits of brightness. Colorful did not disclose color accuracy specifications, indicating the use of a cost-effective panel.
Despite its basic cooling system—consisting of a single fan—the device is not particularly lightweight or slim, weighing 3.92 pounds and measuring 0.7 inches thick. Battery life is rated at up to eight hours for standard office use, supported by a 50Wh battery that charges via USB-C at up to 65W.
Connectivity options include two USB-C ports (one rated for 5 Gbps data transfer), three USB-A ports, HDMI 1.4 output, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
With its combination of mid-range internals and an entry-level price point, the Rimbook L1 seeks to fill the gap between low-cost laptops and more premium ultrabooks, especially for users prioritizing basic productivity over high-end features.
