Nintendo is indicating that Monolith Soft could take on a larger creative role in developing future entries in The Legend of Zelda series, according to a recent interview published on the Japanese studio’s website.
Monolith Soft, widely known for its Xenoblade Chronicles role-playing games, has gradually become a key contributor to several major Zelda titles, including Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Its involvement has evolved from primarily producing game assets to influencing core design and gameplay elements as collaboration between the two companies deepened.
Nintendo acquired a majority stake in Monolith Soft from Bandai Namco in 2007 and completed full ownership of the studio in December 2024. Since then, Monolith Soft has supported a range of high-profile Nintendo projects while continuing development of its own franchises.
The interview suggests that Nintendo now views Monolith Soft as capable of helping build a Zelda game from the ground up, reflecting growing trust after its expanded role in Tears of the Kingdom, where the studio was involved from the earliest stages of development.

Nintendo has not provided details on whether such involvement would apply to a mainline Zelda release or a spin-off project. The company has yet to announce its next major Zelda title, though industry speculation has included the possibility of a remake or a new game timed to align with the planned 2027 release of a Zelda film.
