Team Cherry said it will release a free expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong while also upgrading the original Hollow Knight with visual and technical improvements, extending its long-running support for both indie titles.
The Australian studio said the Silksong expansion, titled Sea of Sorrow, is planned for release in 2026 and will add new playable content similar to the free expansions previously released for Hollow Knight. In an update post, the developer said the expansion will include “new areas, bosses, tools, and more,” though additional details have yet to be disclosed.

Silksong, which builds on the original game’s reputation for high difficulty, is expected to maintain that challenge level in the new content. Team Cherry has previously described the base game as having a steep difficulty curve, suggesting the expansion will cater to experienced players.
Alongside the Silksong announcement, the studio said it is rolling out a Hollow Knight Refresh Update that brings graphical and feature improvements aligned with Silksong’s visual standards. These updates will also be included in a planned Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Team Cherry said the refresh update will be made available across current-generation platforms, adding new features and fixing bugs. PC players can already access the changes through public beta branches on Steam and GOG. The improvements include support for ultrawide display resolutions and additional visual options to reduce color banding.
The studio also confirmed plans to release Silksong-themed minifigures, which are expected to begin shipping through merchandise partner Fangamer in spring 2026.
