Decathlon has unveiled a new electric road bike concept under its Van Rysel performance brand, introducing the FTP² at the Velofollies cycling event in Belgium in mid-January 2026. The concept model is positioned as a high-performance e-bike and is named for its claimed ability to significantly boost a rider’s Functional Threshold Power.

According to the company, the FTP² concept is designed to “double the rider’s FTP,” highlighting its focus on performance-oriented assistance rather than casual riding. The bike is powered by a Mahle M40 motor originally developed for mountain bikes, delivering up to 850 watts of peak power and 105 Nm of torque.

The concept bike features premium components, including an SRAM Red AXS drivetrain paired with a Praxis carbon crank, Swiss Side Hardon3 850 wheels and a Fizik Argo Vento 00 Adaptive saddle. These specifications place the FTP² firmly in the high-end segment of electric road cycling, despite its conceptual status.

A distinctive element of the FTP² is its integrated cockpit, positioned between the handlebars, allowing riders to adjust gears and electric assistance modes. The cockpit also includes a micrometric shoe-tightening system, enabling adjustments without removing hands from the bars. The aerodynamic carbon fibre frame incorporates a two-part fork and is designed so that the motor and battery “disappear into the frame,” according to Decathlon.

The medium-sized FTP² concept weighs around 15 kg, or about 33 pounds, making it relatively light for an e-road bike with a high-output motor. Decathlon has not announced whether the FTP² will enter production, nor has it provided any timeline or pricing details for future Van Rysel models inspired by the concept.
