The latest over-the-air (OTA) update is set to enhance the functionalities of various apps in Volvo and Polestar vehicles, providing drivers with an improved experience. One of the key highlights of this software push is the enhanced Apple CarPlay integration in both Volvo and Polestar vehicles. Notably, drivers will now have the ability to project Apple Maps and other compatible navigation apps onto the driver display, offering a more convenient and seamless navigation experience.
Moreover, the screen situated behind the steering wheel will also provide additional information related to the driver’s phone and media while Apple CarPlay is in use. This means that drivers will have access to more detailed information and controls at their fingertips. They will be able to answer, reject, and end calls using the buttons on the steering wheel, while a dedicated Apple CarPlay tile on the center display will show media-related information.
Alwin Bakkenes, the head of software engineering at Volvo, expressed his commitment to continually improving the customer experience through over-the-air updates. He stated, “When our customers get in their Volvo car, we want it to be a better experience than the day before – our over-the-air updates are a cornerstone in this ambition.” Bakkenes emphasized the collaborative effort between Volvo and its technology partners in adding new features and functionalities, ultimately enhancing the overall experience for customers over time.
In addition to the Apple CarPlay improvements, owners of the Polestar 2 will also benefit from additional enhancements in their vehicles. The 15th update since 2020 will introduce a built-in YouTube app, allowing drivers to enjoy entertainment content while parked or during the charging process. This new feature adds an element of convenience and enjoyment, enhancing the overall driving experience for Polestar 2 owners.
Furthermore, the Range Assistant app, specific to the Polestar brand, has undergone improvements as well. It now offers drivers enhanced capabilities to monitor their energy consumption more effectively. Real-time energy usage figures will enable drivers to review their energy consumption over the last 20, 40, or 100 miles (or kilometers, depending on the market). This valuable information is designed to assist drivers in adopting more efficient driving habits. Additionally, an updated algorithm will leverage this data to provide more accurate range predictions, taking into account environmental changes and other factors that can impact battery draw.
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, acknowledged the anticipation of customers for over-the-air upgrades and expressed confidence that this latest update will be well-received. He highlighted the benefits of the new YouTube app, offering entertainment during charging sessions, and the enhanced Range Assistant app, which provides improved range predictions and supports a more optimized driving style.
With these advancements in app functionalities, Volvo and Polestar continue to prioritize customer satisfaction and strive to deliver a premium driving experience through continuous innovation and software updates. The latest OTA update brings notable features and enhancements, solidifying both brands’ commitment to providing cutting-edge technology and convenience to their valued customers.
