Eric Barone, the creator of the hit indie game Stardew Valley, said development of his next project, Haunted Chocolatier, is continuing, pushing back against speculation that the game had been shelved after a prolonged period of silence.
Barone, who develops under the name ConcernedApe, has largely focused on expanding Stardew Valley in recent years, including work on major updates. Development on Haunted Chocolatier slowed in 2024 as he prioritized completing work tied to version 1.6 of Stardew Valley, contributing to growing uncertainty among fans about the project’s future.

In a new post on the official Haunted Chocolatier blog, Barone sought to reassure followers that the game remains an active project. He said ongoing rumors suggesting the title had been abandoned or reworked into a Stardew Valley expansion were incorrect, adding that progress has continued behind the scenes.
Barone also addressed online speculation about his personal health, saying he remains well and productive. He reiterated that the game would be released only when it meets his expectations, writing that it will launch “when it’s done,” without providing a specific release window.
