Twitter Blue is launching a new feature that allows users to showcase their Non-Fungible Token (NFT) via their profile photo.
The feature is currently only available to Twitter Blue subscribers on iOS, but Twitter has notified that Android and the web will follow suit as the company continues to build on the feature.
When a user chooses to use NFT for their profile picture, Twitter will be displayed as a hexagonal shaped image and will be viewable on all platforms for all users.
“We see Twitter as a discovery platform for all things crypto, including NFT. The NFT conversation on Twitter is growing rapidly with 255.6 million tweets globally and continues to grow rapidly,” wrote Twitter, quoted from ZDNet, Saturday (22/1).
To select NFT as the preferred profile photo, the user simply opens the profile picture and changes the picture as usual.
Here, there will be an option to select NFT, which requires users to connect their supported crypto wallet to their Twitter Blue account
Twitter notes that it only supports static NFT JPEGs and PNGs printed on the Ethereum blockchain, for example, ERC-721 and ERC-1155 tokens.
According to Twitter, once it goes live, other Twitter users can click on NFT’s profile picture to see information about the artist, their collection, where it came from, and whether a project or collection has been verified by OpenSea or other third-party marketplaces.
“We recognize that NFT is a powerful monetization tool for content creators and want to support those who create this art by making it easier for them to participate in the promise of a thriving, decentralized internet, right on Twitter,” Twitter wrote.
