Huawei has finally officially announced their latest foldable phone, the Huawei Mate Xs 2. This is the successor to the Mate Xs which was released in 2020, with several improvements. One of them is from the SoC used, which now comes with Snapdragon 888.
This device has a folding screen with an OLED panel which when stretched has a size of 7.8 inches with a resolution of 2480x2200p with a refresh rate of 120Hz. When folded, the screen will have a size of 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2480x1176p. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold series, the Mate Xs 2 doesn’t have a cover screen, because the screen folds outwards.
The design is slimmer than before, which is 255 grams, from the previous 300 grams. The Mate Xs 2 features an enhanced dual-rotor hinge mechanism that is touted for increased long-term durability and also leaves no visible creases on the screen.
The screen of the Mate Xs 2 also has a stronger shield with a four-layer polymer material. This allows the Mate Xs 2 to support the Huawei M-Pen 2s stylus. So users can write or draw on the tablet-sized phone screen.
Still like its predecessor, this device uses a triple camera configuration, with a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP telephoto module with 3x optical and 30x digital zoom and OIS.
As mentioned earlier, this smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 888 4G SoC with 8/12GB RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage.
The Mate Xs 2 offers a 4,880 mAh battery with 66W fast charging. While the OS uses HarmonyOS 2, which again must be present without GMS (Google Mobile Service) support
The Huawei Mate Xs 2 comes in white, black and purple. The device retails for a starting price of CNY 9,999 for the 8/256GB model and CNY 12,999 for the 12/512GB model. This device will go on sale in China on 6 May.
But seeing the price offered, and the limitations of GMS it has, it looks like this device will only be available in China. Yes, of course with what is offered, it will be difficult for Huawei to compete in the global market.
