Spotify is rolling out real-time lyrics support for the Google Nest Hub app and other Google Assistant Smart Displays. This feature was previously available on iOS, Android, game consoles, desktop computers, and select smart tvs last November.
The lyrics feature allows users to listen to music on Spotify while viewing the lyrics that go along with the song. While Spotify hasn’t officially announced the rollout of the feature, some users are already seeing it on Nest Hub devices, reported 9to5Google (11/7).
To access the features in the Nest Hub, users can click on the lyrics icon that appears in the lower-right corner of the screen. After clicking the icon, the lyrics will scroll in the background while the track is in progress. Spotify’s lyrics feature is licensed and provided by MusixMatch.
“Lyrics are one of the most requested features from listeners worldwide. So after iteration and testing, we’ve created a simple and interactive, even shareable experience. By partnering with Musixmatch, we’re bringing song lyrics to life via in-app access on most our vast library of songs,” the company said of its lyric feature last year.
To note, the lyrics feature was first offered by Google Play Music in late 2018. However, that ability was never carried over to YouTube Music, which does offer static lyrics in the Now Playing UI on Android, iOS, and the web.
