    Amazon Secures 600 MW of Power From Germany’s Largest Planned Baltic Sea Wind Farm

    Agreement with Skyborn Renewables underpins development of the 976.5 MW Gennaker offshore wind project and expands Amazon’s renewable energy portfolio

    Amazon has agreed to purchase 600 MW of electricity from the planned Gennaker offshore wind farm in Germany under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with developer Skyborn Renewables, the companies said.

    The deal, described as the largest single PPA signed in Germany, covers around 61% of the wind farm’s planned generation capacity and is expected to provide a key source of revenue certainty for the project.

    Gennaker Moves Closer to Construction

    The Gennaker offshore wind farm is being developed in the German Baltic Sea, approximately 15 kilometres north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

    With a planned capacity of up to 976.5 MW, the project is set to become the largest offshore wind installation in the German Baltic Sea.

    The development received its construction permit in December 2025 and is expected to reach financial close during the summer of 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin shortly afterward, with commissioning targeted by the end of 2028.

    The wind farm will comprise 63 turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW.

    Skyborn Sees Project as Offshore Wind Blueprint

    Skyborn Renewables said the agreement represents an important milestone for both the company and the Gennaker project.

    “This agreement with Amazon marks a defining milestone for Gennaker and Skyborn. As our blueprint project, Gennaker demonstrates how large-scale offshore wind can be delivered in a reliable, scalable way,” said Adam Thomsen, Chief Development Officer at Skyborn Renewables.

    “It also reflects the growing need to connect renewable electricity generation with robust and forward-looking infrastructure that enables a resilient energy system. I am extremely proud of our teams to make this happen.”

    According to the company, the project is expected to generate enough renewable electricity each year to supply the equivalent of more than one million households.

    Regional Investment and Manufacturing Benefits

    The offshore wind development represents an investment of approximately €3 billion and is expected to contribute to economic activity across Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

    Monopile foundations for the turbines will be manufactured by EEW Special Pipe Constructions (EEW SPC) in Rostock, located about 40 kilometres from the project site.

    The companies said the project will help support employment at EEW SPC, which currently employs around 1,000 workers.

    Amazon Expands German Renewable Energy Portfolio

    The agreement further increases Amazon’s renewable energy footprint in Germany.

    The company now has 12 renewable energy projects in the country with a combined generation capacity exceeding 1.3 GW.

    Once operational, these projects are expected to generate enough electricity annually to match the consumption of more than 1.8 million German homes.

    Rocco Bräuniger, Country Manager for Amazon Germany, Austria and Switzerland, said corporate renewable energy agreements can play an important role in supporting the country’s energy transition.

    “Long-term collaboration between the public and private sectors is key to advancing Germany’s energy transition.”

    “By signing our largest power purchase agreement in Germany, we are giving Skyborn the certainty to move forward with Gennaker, bringing nearly 1GW of new offshore wind capacity onto the grid, strengthening Germany’s energy security, and supporting jobs and investment in the region.”

    The agreement highlights growing demand from large corporate energy buyers seeking long-term access to renewable electricity while helping finance new clean energy projects.
