Xiaomi officially launched its first line of smartphones after a partnership with camera company Leica, under the name Xiaomi 12S series.

Consists of three types of mobile phones, all of which come with camera advantages. Like one of them Xiaomi 12S Ultra which brings a super large camera sensor for the size of a cellphone, reaching 1 inch.

The superiority of camera quality is evident from the design of the back of the phone, where the round camera module is about a third of the size of the entire phone body.

It consists of three cameras, starting from a 50-megapixel main camera, which uses a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor, a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 48-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom.

The main camera of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra also adopts an 8P aspherical lens, which they claim is capable of overcoming common photographic problems such as flare, ghosting, and chromatic aberration.

In addition to camera quality, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra camera module also adds an anti-glare lens coating, a lens edge ink coating, a cyclic olefin copolymer material, and an infrared light filter with spin coating technology. A line of features that are believed to offer a clearer overall image that is consistent across lenses.

Xiaomi also explained that the Xiaomi 12S series “co-engineered with Leica” also uses Leica imaging profiles, inherits the century-old aesthetic of Leica images, and reproduces Leica's tone and aesthetic with the help of state-of-the-art algorithms.

It allows users to access two styles of photography; “Leica Authentic Look” which emphasizes natural imagery according to Leica's strengths so far, and “Leica Vibrant Look” which combines Xiaomi's experience in smartphone photography with Leica's leading aesthetic.

In addition to photography capabilities, the videography quality presented in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra also has more value. Because the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is predicted to be the first Android device that supports Dolby Vision HDR-quality video recording and playback.

Dolby Vision enhances user videos with more vibrant colors, sharper contrast ratios, and richer details. In addition, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra uses HyperOIS technology to provide ultra-stable performance when used to record videos, for more vivid and smooth results.

Beyond the camera quality, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra has a number of advantages typical of other flagship class phones. Such as IP68 water and dust resistance, large 4,860 mAh battery, 67W fast charging, and also a 6.73-inch AMOLED screen that supports a 120Hz refresh rate.

The phone will be powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform which is built on the 4nm TSMC process. Compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the core area of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is 21% smaller, with the CPU and GPU receiving a 10% performance boost and a 30% energy efficiency boost.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is also equipped with a cooling pump that uses a network of capillaries to pump the coolant around and keep it from getting too hot during use.

For now the Xiaomi 12S Ultra stone is only available in the Chinese market. With various prices depending on memory and storage capacity.

The model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage will retail for RMB 5,999, while the high-end version with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage will retail for RMB 6,999.

In addition to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, the Chinese company also launched two other types of smartphones that are ‘lower', namely the Xiaomi 12S and the Xiaomi 12S Pro.

Both phones have a main camera sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches, which, although smaller than the Xiaomi 12 S Ultra, is still larger than the sensor on a typical smartphone.

By using the same Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip, both use different screen sizes. The Xiaomi 12S screen measures 6.28 inches, while the Xiaomi 12S Pro reaches 6.73 inches, like the screen size of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

For the price, the Xiaomi 12S starts at RMB 3,999 and the Xiaomi 12S Pro starts at RMB 4,699.
