Garmin has rolled out a new beta software update, version 15.09, for its Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 570 smartwatches, introducing key performance enhancements and improved workout tracking accuracy.

The update is currently in beta testing and can be manually downloaded by registered participants through the over-the-air (OTA) feature.

A major highlight of this update is the more responsive pace indicator, which now delivers faster feedback on the time required per mile or kilometer. Garmin says this improvement allows athletes to better monitor their performance and make real-time adjustments during workouts.

Although the pace is still calculated from distance over time rather than measured instantly, the update minimizes lag, helping runners maintain a steady rhythm—especially during pace-based training sessions on flat routes.

In addition to this, Garmin has added an automatic key lock for indoor climbing sessions to prevent accidental button presses during activity. The update also includes multiple bug fixes, addressing issues such as unexpected reboots, display shutdowns, and Run Coach synchronization errors.

Garmin notes that, as with other beta releases, the ECG feature remains temporarily disabled on the Forerunner 970. The company encourages users to share feedback via the official Garmin Beta forum as testing continues ahead of the stable release.
