Oppo has launched the Pad Air 5, a new mid-range tablet positioned to compete on price and features in a segment dominated by Apple’s iPad, offering a high-refresh-rate display, a large battery and optional 5G connectivity.

Despite carrying the “Air” branding, the Pad Air 5 is not especially thin or light, measuring 0.27 inches thick and weighing about 1.32 pounds. Instead, Oppo is emphasizing value, with pricing starting at around $270. The tablet features a 12.1-inch IPS display in a 7:5 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2800 by 1980 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 900 nits.

The device is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra processor, combining four Cortex-A78 performance cores and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, and runs Oppo’s ColorOS 16. It includes a 10,050 mAh battery supporting up to 33-watt USB-C charging, while both the front and rear cameras are rated at 8 megapixels. Oppo says the display covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color space and fully supports sRGB.

Oppo also highlighted accessory support, noting that the tablet is compatible with a separately sold stylus, though no official keyboard cover is currently offered. According to the product description, the Pad Air 5 is designed to “stand out with an attractive price-performance ratio.”

The Pad Air 5 is currently available only in China, with prices ranging from the equivalent of $270 for an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model to about $384 for a 12GB RAM, 256GB version featuring a “Softlight Display.” Oppo has said a 5G variant is expected later, and a broader international launch remains possible based on previous Pad Air releases.
