Apple is reportedly in the process of relocating the production of their smartwatch and laptop devices to Vietnam, which is located in the Southeast Asian region. Apparently, this is the first MacBook and Apple Watch production shift aimed at Apple’s factory in Vietnam.
As is well known, Vietnam has now become one of Apple’s most important production centers outside of China. This manufacturer has also produced various kinds of superior products from the US technology giant.
Today Vietnam has become a manufacturing ground for several Apple products, including certain iPad and AirPods models. In fact, recently Apple is alleged to have shifted a number of their device production to countries in the Southeast Asian region.
Based on a report from Nikkei Asia, as quoted by MacRumors, Apple’s move is seen as part of the company’s push to diversify its supply chain from China. Previously, the company also continued to seek to contract a number of manufacturers who are suppliers for their devices to carry out production in Vietnamese factories.
Furthermore, one of Apple’s suppliers, Luxshare Precision Industry, is said to have started trial production of Apple Watch and MacBook models in Vietnam. Nikkei Asia revealed that this trial phase took place in the North Vietnam region to facilitate the relocation process carried out.
Along with reports of relocating production of the Apple Watch and MacBook, Apple is also reportedly considering the possibility of moving the HomePod production to the country. Unfortunately, the Nikkei Asia report notes, trial production of the Apple MacBook in Vietnam is progressing slowly due to relationship breakdowns caused by the pandemic.
However, reports about the transfer of production to the Apple Watch and MacBook are still just rumors. Apple and Luxshare Precision have not yet responded to the news.
