Amazon Games has announced it will end active development on its massively multiplayer online role-playing game New World after the release of Season 10: Nighthaven. The company confirmed that while no further content updates are planned, the game’s servers will remain operational through 2026 as the studio shifts its focus to maintenance and long-term support.

“It is only after much consideration that we’ve reached this decision,” Amazon Games said in an official statement. The announcement follows recent company-wide layoffs that affected multiple Amazon Games teams, reflecting a broader restructuring effort toward smaller, cloud-focused and AI-driven projects.

Despite the halt in development, Amazon emphasized that New World will continue to operate, with PvE and PvP modes, in-game services, and the storefront remaining online. The company pledged to provide players with ample notice before any future shutdown. Refunds are being issued to recent purchasers, and premium content like Rise of the Angry Earth has been made free to ease the transition.

The decision comes after months of speculation within the player community and follows attempts by Amazon to revive the game through cross-platform updates and system overhauls. Sustaining the MMO’s development cadence, however, proved costly as player engagement declined from its early highs. “We’ve made the difficult choice to prioritize stability and support for our community,” the studio said, adding that staff will now focus on bug fixes and performance improvements.

The outcome reflects the challenges large publishers face in maintaining resource-intensive live service games amid shifting corporate strategies. For New World players, Season 10 will serve as the game’s final major update, marking the end of an ambitious but turbulent chapter in Amazon’s gaming portfolio.
