Garmin has released new material aimed at showing how its smartwatches and connected devices could play a role in helping some people manage diabetes, reaffirming its broader push into health-oriented wearables. The company said its products offer tools ranging from real-time glucose integrations to lifestyle tracking that may support users seeking to improve metabolic health.

In its statement, Garmin referenced independent research that examined the role of physiological data gathered from wearables. A study published earlier this year in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology reported that physiological data collected from a Garmin smartwatch “demonstrated strong potential” for detecting early signs of nocturnal hypoglycemia, indicating a possible role for wearables in early-warning systems.

The company also pointed to recommendations from the Yale School of Medicine that stressed the importance of exercise and nutrition in the management of early-stage type 2 diabetes. Garmin noted that its devices could complement continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) through reminders, suggested workouts and tracking features designed to help users build healthier routines.

Garmin’s latest lifestyle logging system, first introduced with the Venu 4 smartwatch, enables users to record habits such as caffeine and alcohol intake and evaluate their impact on metrics like sleep and heart rate. The company added that its Index S2 smart scale could support long-term weight and body-composition tracking for those pursuing behavioral changes.

Beyond standalone device features, Garmin emphasized partnerships with Dexcom and Twin Health. Dexcom integration enables real-time glucose trends to appear on a smartwatch, while the Twin Health platform receives data such as sleep, heart rate variability and activity from Garmin devices. The company said that combining CGM information with smartwatch data allows the platform to deliver personalized metabolic insights, and added that Garmin Health continues to support ongoing research projects targeting diabetes management.
