Instagram’s parent company Meta announced that its video and photo sharing app is now supporting fundraising via Instagram Reels. Reporting from Digital Trends (20/4), this fundraising feature is part of the Earth Day initiative, where Meta proposes several social media-centric ways for users to engage and show support for environmental issues.
The fundraising feature allows users to raise and donate funds on Reels. This is an option before users upload their videos on Reels and add an account regarding fundraising.
According to the Meta announcement, this new feature is available from April 19 and supports more than 1.5 million non-profit organizations and can be used in more than 30 countries.
Here’s how to access the fundraising feature on Reels:
Step 1: Open the Instagram app and shoot a Reels video as usual
Step 2: When you’re done creating your Reels video, hit Preview
Step 3: Then tap Next
Step 4: On the page before posting the video, tap Add fundraiser
Step 5: Then search for and select the organization you want to create a fundraiser for.
Step 6: On the Fundraiser Details page, edit your fundraising details and set a goal amount, then click Done.
Step 7: Once the Reels are ready to share, click Share.
The fundraising added on Reels will last for 30 days. Meta says they will take care of the processing and fees of the donation.
So, all the funds raised are sent to the organization of your choosing. However, it is not yet known whether this feature supports personal fundraising.
