Apple is reportedly set to elevate the camera capabilities of its upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models by equipping them with a periscope lens, a feature previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
According to a leak from DigiTimes, this move aims to standardize advanced telephoto performance across the Pro lineup, addressing user preferences for superior zoom capabilities without compromising on device size.
Production of the periscope lens modules has purportedly commenced in collaboration with Largan Precision and Yujingguang, underscoring Apple‘s commitment to enhancing optical zoom technology.
The iPhone 16 Pro is said to adopt a distinctive “quadruple-reflection prism” design for its telephoto lens, allowing for a sleeker camera bump compared to competitors. However, concerns about potential light loss and its impact on low-light telephoto performance remain unresolved in the upcoming series.
While the iPhone 16 Pro will feature 5x optical zoom, speculation surrounding the iPhone 16 Pro Max suggests the introduction of a “super telephoto” lens, hinting at even greater zoom capabilities exclusive to the larger model.
Beyond camera upgrades, rumors indicate a potential design overhaul for the iPhone 16 series, including a shift to a vertical camera orientation and the introduction of the “Action button” across more models, enhancing user interaction with touch-sensitive alternatives.
